Outreach
As part of intensive training within ITN-BIOPOL our fellows participate in outreach activities in their host institutions.

Fellows mainly participated in science fairs and school days designed and/or organised by themselves. All fellows were actively involved in managing BIOPOL Twitter account .
Through outreach activities BIOPOL fellows
- raise awareness of research funded by the European Union
- contribute to increase the public understanding of science
- improve their communication skills to non-specialist staff, school pupils and general public at a very basic level.

Outreach activity 4
As part of the training, BIOPOL fellows were encouraged to run an event promoting BIOPOL network and research to the public - Outreach activity 4. Fellows decided to host a fun, informal evening of talks and quizzes in a local pub.
They were supported by an organisation which commonly hosts such events â Pint of Science, which is a British-based international organisation whose main objective is to catalyse the exchange of knowledge and culture between the non-scientific public and scientific researchers.
PoSâs main activity is a science festival held in bars over three evenings in May. These events have soared in popularity every year since its debut in 2013.
The outreach activity 4 was organised as a one-off special Pint of Science (PoS) event entitled âWhat happens when we push cells to their limit?â on 6 September in the North Bar in Harrogate, UK, along with the ITN-BIOPOL Final Meeting and PhysCell2018 conference.
BIOPOL fellows confidently solicited the support of PoS in selling tickets on their website and publicising through their e-mailing list, BIOPOL and North Bar Twitter accounts.
The event was also advertised locally through posters and flyers in the bar and in the closest neighbourhood. 33 members of the local public attended the event. Most attendants, as well as the pub managers who hosted the event, had previously heard of or attended PoS events, however, these attendants had no connection with BIOPOL or biophysics research previously.
