- Profile
-
I joined the University of Sheffield in 2025 as a Research Associate in Theoretical Physics, though I’d more accurately describe myself as a Mathematical Biologist.
Prior to this I was a Research Associate at the University of Manchester. I combined mathematical modelling with biological experiments to explore the oscillatory dynamics of the mitotic spindle in Xenopus laevis animal caps. I also explored the mechanical landscape of the excised animal cap.
I completed my PhD in Quantitative and Biophysical Biology at the University of Manchester in 2023. My PhD was funded by the Wellcome Trust, researching the mechanisms controlling dynamic spindle movements in excised Xenopus laevis animal caps subject to an external load. I utilised mathematical modelling to describe the mechanisms which contribute to different modes of mitotic spindle oscillation. I experimentally validated the presence of oscillations using live imaging, and combined the mathematical and experimental outputs to determine the subcellular effect of stretch on spindle orientation factors.
- Qualifications
-
- PhD (University of Manchester)
- MMath&Phys (University of Manchester)
- Research interests
-
My main research interest is combining mathematical approaches with experimental outputs to work as one to answer interesting questions.
I primarily utilise stochastic simulations and differential equations.
Biologically I am interested in cellular mechanics and function.
